This album did not fare as well as their first three albums, but the album did manage to spawn one hit single in the single 'U Already Know' peaked at 32 on the Billboard Hotwhile the second single 'What If' reached It was the first album to get a Parental Advisory sticker. Three singles from the album were released.

Inthe album was the best-selling album in cassette format. Despite its disappointing peak, the album was moderately successful with sales of overcopies in the United States, earning a Gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America. My Thoughts sold more than one million copies in the United States and received generally mixed to positive reviews by critics. Over a few months, after the album's official release, the album became a platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Avant worked with Steve 'Stone' Huff on the majority of the album.
